Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, is a place of contrasts and beauty, where the rich tapestry of civilizations that have left their mark here over the centuries results in a fascinating diversity of cultures, architecture and gastronomy. From the turquoise bays and dazzling beaches to the majestic mountains, blossoming orange groves and historic towns, Sicily is a treasure trove of experiences.

In the heart of Sicily lies Piazza Armerina, a charming medieval town known for its impressive collection of Roman mosaics in the Villa Romana del Casale. Dating back to the 4th century, this villa is one of the most important archaeological sites on the island and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The mosaics that adorn the floors of the villa are of exceptional beauty and complexity and depict scenes from daily life, mythological stories and exotic animals. They are an astonishing testimony to the skill and creativity of the artists of the time.

Piazza Armerina itself is a lively town with narrow streets, picturesque squares and an impressive cathedral. The city is also known for its traditional festivals, including the "Palio dei Normanni", a historic knights' tournament that takes place every year in August.

The convent of Sant'Anna was founded in the first decade of the 17th century as a retreat for women through the work of Pietro Calascibetta, the Baron of Cutumino. After becoming a widower with seven daughters, he introduced the first three to the religious life of the convent of S. Agata; a few years later he founded the Congregation of S. Brigida, which he set up in his house adjacent to the Oratory of S. Anna. Pope Urban VIII authorized the transformation of the congregation into a monastery in a bull dated 23 June 1642. Used as a school in the meantime, Sant'Anna has been home to the ONE SKY academy | accademia UN CIELO since March 2023

Whether you are a history and art lover or simply want to enjoy Sicilian cuisine and warm hospitality, Piazza Armerina is an unforgettable place.
